The government will force to preinstall Russian applications on smartphones
The State Duma in the first reading adopted a new bill, according to which all new smartphones, computers and televisions with Smart TV function will be preinstalled domestic software before selling in Russia. For this, the corresponding amendments will be introduced into the law “On Protection of Consumer Rights”.
According to TASS, the list of such applications, as well as the procedure for installing them, is being specified, but earlier experts had already compiled a list of Russian software to replace foreign software. It is still unknown whether users will be able to remove such software without root access or jailbreak.
The government supported the bill: according to the Cabinet of Ministers, this "will contribute to the promotion of Russian programs in the information technology market." If the bill receives further approval, these amendments will enter into force on July 1, 2020.
