Samsung Wave 3 smartphone with the new bada 2.0 OS

1

Recently, I had the opportunity to "touch" one of the most interesting smartphones of the Korean giant Samsung – Wave 3. Why is it one of the most interesting, you ask? After all, this model uses the same hardware as the Samsung Galaxy S Plus (1.4 GHz processor, 4 "Super AMOLED display and 5-megapixel HD camera)?

Phone differences

The thing is that the main driving force of the phone is its operating system. In this case, this is the main difference from the same Galaxy S Plus. The new Samsung Wave 3 smartphone uses a developed and supported by Samsung OS – bada 2.0. And another difference: Samsung’s new bada-background uses the Super AMOLED display instead of the newer Super AMOLED Plus technology (which provides impressive images on the screens of smartphones such as the Galaxy S II). Nevertheless, this is a good decision of the company, since this type of screens is one of the best in terms of contrast, economy and wide viewing angles.

Innovations

As you already understood, Samsung Wave 3 is the first smartphone of the company with the new bada 2.0 platform. I won’t talk about this operating system in detail here, but just briefly go over all the major innovations. These include: multitasking support, Wi-Fi Direct technology for direct file transfer between two Wi-Fi devices without the need for an access point, and voice recognition. Also available is support for modern NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, which is commonly used for making mobile payments. In Russia, such a service is not yet offered, so I did not have the opportunity to check it.

The real novelty here is felt when working with bada, and in particular with Samsung's TouchWiz user interface, which in terms of personalization options can be compared with the version for Android. Icons in the menu can be arranged according to your preferences – just drag and drop them to the desired location. The initial screen also looks interesting. Widgets are arranged as panels. Their number can reach 11. At the top of the screen is a retractable bar with a notification ribbon and quick settings for call mode, GPS and wireless connections.

Beautiful design

Wave 3 creates a sense of stability – the entire case, including the battery cover is made of anodized aluminum, and the display is protected by Gorilla glass. Due to the body material, the weight of the device is relatively high – 121 g, but it is one of the thinnest phones with bada. Profile thickness is 9.9 mm, like the popular Samsung Galaxy S or S Plus.

Speed and applications

The new Wave 3 supports HSDPA technology, so even if you don’t have Wi-Fi, you can use the comfortable mobile speed of 14.4 Mbps. Bada itself is not new to mobile operating systems; on the contrary, it is a well-developed platform. This guarantees a large number of applications in the Samsung apps store, which currently has about 30,000 different programs and games. The company will have to be patient in order to somehow narrow the gap with Apple and Android, but do not even doubt that the number of applications will only grow over time.

The Asian giant has included in the device and many of its own developments, including the Social Hub. The latter combines incoming messages and updates from social networks, including synchronizing contacts with social services, managing calendars from various accounts and, of course, email messages. In Samsung Wave 3 you will find the new ChatON communication service, which provides group chat and a modern web client for exchanging content between mobile devices and personal computers. The service is available in more than 120 countries and supports 62 languages.

Multimedia

Modern phones have successfully replaced us with old music players, but they also cope well with video. For lovers of music, video and photos, Samsung Wave 3 offers the following features: recording and playing HD video (720p) at 30 frames per second, playing DivX files, FM radio, connecting headphones to a 3.5 mm audio jack and 4 GB of internal memory with expandable up to 32 GB with microSD cards. Moreover, the phone works for up to 10 days in standby mode and up to 8.5 hours in talk mode on a single charge – indicators that are still unattainable for Android.
