Researchers named manufacturers who most often update Android on their smartphones
Analyst Counterpoint found out which companies issue updates for Android smartphones most often. Nokia came first.
Researchers studied indicators for the period from the third quarter of 2018 to the second quarter of 2019. 96% of smartphones that Nokia released last year now run on Android 9.0 Pie. Samsung is in second place: the latest version of the operating system is available on 89% of the company's devices.
Xiaomi and Huawei have also high indicators – 84 and 82%, respectively. But other Chinese manufacturers are far behind: Lenovo, Oppo and Vivo more than 50% of smartphones still work on Android 8.1 Oreo or older.

Nokia updated nearly 50% of last year’s devices to the latest OS in just six months. Other companies, not including Xiaomi and Lenovo, have updated to Android 9 less than half of their devices.
Updates to the operating system and security systems are an aspect of Android smartphones that receive relatively little attention. For the entire time that we are engaged in research in this industry, we have seen very few brands that consider this important. It seems that since manufacturers do not talk about this, awareness among consumers is rather low. In our study, updates did not even get on the list of ten functions that at least somehow excite users.
