Introduced USB 4.0 interface: even faster, more versatile
USB Implementers Forum has unveiled the final version of the USB 4.0 standard. This interface is based on Thunderbolt 3 and provides the ability to simultaneously transfer data, charge and display the image on the screen.
Officially, the new standard is called USB4, it’s without a space, unlike the previous USB 3. Its main advantage is its higher bandwidth – up to 40 Gb / s, which is twice as much as the latest version of USB 3.2, and 8 times more than the original USB 3.0.
Among the important advantages are mentioned backward compatibility with USB 3.1 and USB 2.0, as well as full compatibility with Thunderbolt 3 devices and cables. With the transition to USB4, the problem of finding the right wire will come to naught, because it combines all current standards together.
The third advantage of USB4 is the improved separation of data and video signals – USB4 solves the problem of reducing throughput when performing parallel tasks. Now if, for example, you have a monitor that uses 8 Gb / s for video output, the remaining 32 Gb / s will be fully accessible for other purposes.
The first devices with USB4 should not be expected in the near future, they can be released only in 2020.
