Choosing a smart watch with Android Wear
Fans of pampering themselves with modern technological innovations have probably already planned to spend part of the budget on smart watches with the Android operating system. This is the very buzz of fashion, models are still not enough, but you can already choose. Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch have already gone on sale, and the Moto 360 is expected to launch a little later. We offer you a comparative review, although it is difficult to call it full-fledged, since very little is known about the Moto 360.
It is difficult to determine the winner here, since both heroes are moderately well-fed, have a square shape and take up a lot of space around the wrist. If you put them side by side, the cases and screens will vary little in size. However, Samsung Gear Live has a distinctive feature – metal around the case and on the clasp. The strap looks a little thinner due to its narrowed shape and the clasp mechanism here is more convenient than usual. In general, the creator of samsung galaxy s 4 made his device more stylish, but this is a matter of taste.
The Moto 360 is surprisingly lightweight despite the use of stainless steel. The round display is large and bright. It seems more massive compared to competitors, but it looks better on small wrists due to its round shape.
Novelties are quite comparable in terms of a set of hardware properties. The LG G Watch has a 1.65-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 280 x 280 pixels. Performance is provided by a 400 mAh battery, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with a clock frequency of 1.2 GHz, 512 MB RAM and 4 GB of internal memory.
Samsung Gear Live works with a 1.63-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 320 × 320 pixels and a battery of 300 mA / h. The processor, memory and RAM are no different from LG watches. However, the AMOLED screen is less energy-intensive, so the batteries will last for longer or at least as much. A distinctive feature of this model is the built-in heart rate sensor, however, the stability of its operation, as well as the need, is in question. Anyone can measure their heart rate using a regular watch.
The hardware properties of the Moto 360 are not yet declassified, but many believe that this will be the queen among such solutions. There is talk of an OLED screen, which is also less energy intensive than an LCD. It is likely that the solution will be equipped with wireless charging, however, it will need to be inserted into a special docking station.
All devices use the same version of Android Wear, which is designed to "strengthen" and make the work of Android smartphones more convenient. There are no customized versions yet, so everything works more or less the same.
The LG G Watch has a very nice feature that allows you to change the design of the watch. There is a large selection of different options, and we should expect additional third-party developers on Google Play.
As we already said, the younger brother of samsung galaxy s 4 is easier to fasten. There are several holes on the bracelet that you need to get into. In addition, the shape of the strap leaves little space for the wrist skin to “breathe”.
The G Watch strap is rubberized and flat, due to which the hand sticks and sweats. The straps in both models are removable.
Battery and Charging
It is not worth comparing here for a long time. And not only because the LG G Watch has a larger battery. The fact is that with this model the charger is much more convenient than that of a competitor. It just needs to be connected, while Samsung Gear Live needs to be inserted into a special base for recharging, and the slot, at the same time, is not very reliable: it can be accidentally torn out. In both cases, the charge is enough for only one, so charging at night should become a habit. Perhaps this is even more convenient, since charging every day, you definitely will not forget to charge.
Theoretically, the resolution of 320×320 and the AMOLED technology are leading Samsung Gear Live, since LG has a screen resolution of 280×280 and LCD technology. In practice, this means sharper images and better viewing angles. However, in practice, the G Watch performs better on the street in bright light, although the difference is not very large: both screens do not look very good in the sun.
Style and comfort are very important when choosing a watch, because we wear this thing every day. Therefore, the LG G Watch may be the best choice, taking into account more convenient charging and the choice of appearance. Especially if you want to use your own strap. Although Samsung Gear Live looks more interesting and conveniently fastens. In addition, the price may become an important factor in the selection: Gear Live will cost $ 199, and G Watch – $ 229. However, perhaps it makes sense to wait until the end of the summer and a new product from Motorola, a striking advantage of which is the round shape. True, how much it will cost is still unknown.
