Acer Aspire 2920Z Notebook

Its appearance and equipment (2 GB of RAM, a 160 GB hard drive, a DVD drive, a webcam) look rather modest. But this laptop is far from new, so you should make a discount on this. As we found out, on the market you can also find a variation of this model with a 250 GB hard drive.

The case and lid, remotely resembling a lacquered piano, give the impression of strength and stability, but the light plastic framing the display and keyboard can no longer be called quality material – the larger models of the Aspire series are similarly decorated. The arrangement of bulbs and buttons at first will seem unusual to you, and of the two transparent plastic protrusions, the button is only one, and the other is just an ornament.

The keyboard is comfortable and has a good size, sufficient for those who are used to typing a lot. Some keys, however, turned out to be too narrow, and the Home and End buttons generally have to be called up using the Fn-F9 and Fn-F10 function key combinations. The touchpad of the laptop is quite spacious.

The Acer Aspire 2920Z speakers do not give a particularly good sound, despite the boastful Virtual Surround Sound and Dolby Home Theater stickers, and the laptop does not have SPDIF output. But this model has an S-Video connector.

The Intel Pentium Dual T2330 processor, like the Core 2 Duo, is built on the Merom core, but it only has 1 MB of L2 cache, slow memory connection and lower clock speeds. The chipset used is Intel GL960 (a variant of GM965), which is characterized by a less efficient graphics subsystem. It is almost impossible to play 3D games with it, but when working with ordinary graphics and office applications, we did not notice any loss in speed.

Despite the relatively low power consumption of the system, the fan runs almost constantly, even if with the help of a special energy-saving program from Acer you can lower the processor clock speed to 500 MHz.

Standard software should be considered very meager, and some Acer utilities provide only minimal advantages compared to the capabilities of Windows itself or do not give any at all.

The numerous settings of the eNet Management utility turn out to be very useful for frequent network changes, but in the absence of an Internet connection it annoys with constant error messages.
